As you may be aware, the Dogs Trust run a subsidised neutering scheme along side veterinary practices to encourage neutering. This scheme is available from us at St Clair Veterinary Care for clients on eligible benefits. However, there has been some changes to the scheme which you may not be aware of:

From 1st March 2016 there will be some changes to the Dogs Trust neutering scheme. The current price which the owner must contribute for a Dogs Trust neutering voucher is £30, this will increase to £35 per pet. And as well as providing us with proof of benefits to purchase a voucher, photograph ID will also be required such as a passport or driving license. from 1st March the Dogs Trust will also be limiting the breeds which qualify for the scheme. Eligible breeds will include:
Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Bull Mastiff
Rottweiler
American Bulldog
Greyhound
Lurcher
Akita
Husky
Alaskan Malamute
German Shepherd
Samoyed
Jack Russel Terrier
Collie
Any crossbreed where the primary breed is identifiable as one of the above listed breeds.

For more information on the Dogs Trust neutering scheme please contact the surgery on 01670 457271. We will continue to offer FREE pre-neuter checks prior to booking neutering through the Dogs Trust. Photo ID and proof of benefits must be provided to us when purchasing the voucher, which then enables us to book the operation. We cannot issue any vouchers without a recent pre-neuter check.

Eligible benefits to qualify for this scheme are as follows:

  • Income Support
  • Housing Benefit
  • Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Council Tax Reduction / Council Tax Support
  • Jobseekers Allowance (Income Based)
  • Child Task Credit

As benefits are now paid directly into people’s bank accounts or post office accounts, they will not benefit books but should be able to provide a recent letter, bank statement or certificate of benefit from an official source. (e.g. Job Centre Plus, Dept. For Work & Pensions etc).
